Mainstream US media reports US GDP for 2022 grew at an average of 2.1% for the year. But averages won’t tell you how the US economy slowed over the course of the year, from Dec. 31, 2021 thru Dec. 31, 2022. That more accurate statistic showed US economy grew barely at 1% for 2022. Federal Reserve data showed an even slower growth, according to Fed chair, Jerome Powell: Only 0.5%. The massive $8T fiscal and monetary stimulus of 2020-21 has thus virtually disappeared–amid talk even in mainstream media now of renewed recession in the first six months of 2023. Which raises the questions: where did the $8T stimulus go? And why did it have so little effect on generating sustained real economic activity and growth in 2022 and lead to another recession in 2023?
Listen to my breakdown and analysis of US economy measured in terms of GDP for 2022 (and latest 4th quarter 2022).
