Watch my recent hour long interview with host, Paul Prescod, on the ‘What Is Revolution’ internet channel show, on this year’s (2023) historic juncture in fate of union labor in America. Topics discussed include tactics and strategy in the UAW and other strikes and union negotiations (Teamsters, Writers, Railroad workers in 2022), actors, etc. Will union labor reverse 44 years of concession bargaining? How will the unions address the decades-long wage and benefits stagnation and loss? How to address the existential threats to jobs from Artificial Intelligence? Why current forms of union organization may have to change. To Watch GO TO:

In regard to job losses associated with artificial intelligence, the statement was made that we need something that brings workers and nonworkers together. I couldn’t agree more and the answer is the urgent need to transform the US as well as the world to clean energy systems. Tens of millions of jobs would be generated by the transformation of the US energy infrastructure which would include placing solar panels on every structure not just a token few; electrifying the entire railroad grid; dismantling oil refineries and gas pipelines; building an integrated public transportation system; and on and on and on. Those kinds of clean energy jobs cannot be offshored or solved by software and as set forth midway through The Scourge we are now witnessing one of those paradigm shifts in the underlying energy sources as pivotable as the transformation from human energy and animal energy first to coal and then oil. Likewise, there is no more compelling example of the debate between Keynes and Hayek: as the fossil fuel industry now claims, Hayek argued that in the long run, capitalism is self correcting. And Keynes thundered back, “in the long run we are all dead” which is exactly what will happen unless we deal with the “externalities” of fossil fuel now.
